How Does the CFCI Scholarship Program Work?

CFCI manages and administers scholarship funds established by local donors to support students with diverse backgrounds, goals, and financial needs. Each scholarship opportunity is reviewed by a selection committee that will determine the recipient(s).

Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to all your questions about applying for a scholarship. Please note that these FAQ’s are applicable to students applying for scholarships through CFCI’s portal, not external scholarships.

Most scholarships, including Universal Applications, open the first week of January and are due the first Wednesday of March.

Scholarships outside of the Universal Application may have their own deadlines. For more details, please visit the Scholarship Opportunities page.

Applicants must live within CFCI’s service area* (a 50-mile radius of Peoria, IL, excluding Knox and McLean Counties). Scholarships are available for accredited nonprofit or public institutions. Eligibility varies by scholarship and may be based on merit, financial need, interests, or background. The Universal Application will match students to scholarships for which they’re eligible. For full eligibility details, visit the Scholarship Opportunities page.

*Some scholarships, noted on the Scholarship Opportunities page, accept applicants outside the service area.

Each CFCI scholarship is different and has unique requirements. However, the most common requirements are listed below.

  • Transcript
  • FAFSA Submission Summary
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Essay Questions
  • Submit complete and accurate applications, including all required materials.
  • Review each scholarship’s description and instructions carefully.
  • Applicants are responsible for ensuring all documents (e.g., transcripts, recommendations) are included.
  • Allow adequate time upon submitting the Universal Application, as you may be required to answer supplemental questions and provide additional materials.
  • Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

To request your scholarship payment, you will need to complete the Scholarship Request Form. CFCI requires official enrollment verification from your school or the National Student Clearinghouse. Acceptance letters, pre-registration, and class schedules are not accepted. This verification can be uploaded with the request form or emailed to michelle@communityfoundationci.org. Once processed, checks typically arrive at your school within two weeks. Please refer to your award notification for additional information.
