This educational fund scholarship was established by Dr. Valentine Jobst III. His family settled in Peoria in 1859 and founded V. Jobst and Sons Construction Company. The company built many local landmarks, including the original Washington School building on Moss Avenue and Peoria High School, where Dr. Jobst graduated.

Dr. Jobst earned honors from the University of Illinois in 1926 and later served as an instructor and political science professor there, with a break to serve as a Major in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He retired in 1964 and passed away in 1993.

This is a one-year scholarship. It is not automatically renewable, but previous recipients may reapply each year.

  • Motivation to accomplish career goals
  • Potential for scholarship, citizenship, and leadership are taken into consideration
  • Financial need is only a consideration when other factors weigh equally among applicants

Requirements

  • Applicant must be a graduating senior of a Peoria Public High School
  • Applicant must be pursuing vocational/technical education at an accredited institution. This would include technical-related 2-year Applied Science degrees, such as but not limited to: Automotive Technology, Culinary Arts Management, Computer Programming and Database Development, CNC Machine Operator, Dental Hygienist, Diesel Powered Equipment Technology, HVAC Technician, etc., at Illinois Central College or a similar institution
