Community Foundation of Central Illinois Hosts Fall Grants Reception

Awards More Than $150,000 for Competitive Community Needs Grant Initiatives

On Wednesday, October 23, the Community Foundation of Central Illinois hosted a reception to recognize the recipients of more than $150,000 awarded from the Community Needs and the Local Jobs Fund grants. Through the generous contributions of our fund-holders, the Community Foundation is able to support many deserving nonprofit organizations in the central Illinois community through our grantmaking processes. More than 40 nonprofit executives and representatives gathered along with Community Foundation board members, volunteers and staff to celebrate.

For over 33 years, the Community Foundation has remained committed to our mission of “connecting people who care with causes that matter.” The Community Needs grants support community development, capacity building, and educational programs and allow nonprofit agencies to apply for up to $15,000 in funding. The Local Jobs Fund grant supports projects that have a direct linkage to breaking the cycle of poverty by equipping people with the skills to earn significantly more than minimum wage and allows nonprofit agencies to apply for $2,500 in funding.

Community Foundation Director of Grants and Community Initiatives, Sarah Fletcher, believes that “through grantmaking, CFCI is able to ensure a lasting legacy for our funders who have made a long-term commitment to ensuring the positive growth and stability of our nonprofit community here in central Illinois.”

Organizations funded include: Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois, Center for Prevention of Abuse, Prairie State Legal Services, City of Peoria, Dream Center Peoria, Phoenix Community Development Services, American Red Cross Serving Central Illinois, Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service, Peoria Jobs Partnership, Teen Challenge Illinois, Salvation Army Heartland Division, EP!C, Camp Big Sky, and Peoria Public Schools Foundation.
