On Wednesday, November 1, the Community Foundation of Central Illinois hosted a reception to recognize the recipients of more than $155,000 awarded from the Community Needs program and the newly created The Arts Mean Business and Local Jobs fund grants. Through the generous contributions of our fund-holders, the Community Foundation is able to support many deserving nonprofit organizations in the central Illinois community through our granmaking processes.
More than 45 nonprofit executives and representatives gathered along with Community Foundation board members, volunteers and staff to celebrate this significant milestone as the Foundation awarded over $40,000 more in grants than the previous year to 24 nonprofit organizations.
For over 31 years, the Community Foundation has remained commited to our mission of “connecting people who care with causes that matter.” The Community Needs grants support programs that align with the grantmaking priciples and elements of the Community Foundation and allows nonprofit agencies to apply for up to $15,000 in funding. The newly created The Arts Mean Business Fund and the Local Jobs Fund grants which collectively awarded $5,000 in funding this cycle. The Arts Mean Business Fund is designed to support the generation of economic growth in the region through arts while the Local Jobs Fund supports projects that have a direct linkage to breaking the cycle of poverty by equipping people with the skills to earn significantly more than minium wage.
Community Foundation Program Manager, Kim James, believes that “through grantmaking, CFCI is able to ensure a lasting legacy for our funders who have made a long-term commitment to ensuring the positive growth and stability of our nonprofit community here in central Illinois.”
