Community Foundation Announces Second $40,000 Grant Opportunity to Address Food Insecurity

November 7, 2019—The Community Foundation of Central Illinois (CFCI) is pleased to announce the second round of the Ending Hunger Together grants program to address food insecurity issues throughout central Illinois. Fueled by $40,000 in grant funding, the program combines an emphasis on healthy food access, community education, and economic development to create a framework of collaboration.

“Studies show that nearly 45,000 adults and children in the tri-county area lack access to enough food for an active, healthy life,” says Mark Roberts, CFCI Chief Executive Officer. “The Ending Hunger Together grants program will take a bold approach to this growing problem by addressing the root causes of food insecurity. Thank you to the generous donors and community partners who helped the Community Foundation create this important initiative.”

The second year of the program will again include a maximum of $40,000 in grant funding made possible by the Ending Hunger Together and Sow A Seed funds at CFCI. Grant proposals must reflect multi-organizational efforts and address at least two of CFCI’s key areas of interest related to food insecurity throughout central Illinois. This framework is designed to drive collaboration throughout the local not-for-profit sector and create evidence-based plans for sustainability.

All organizations with 501(c)(3) status within CFCI’s service area are eligible to apply for the Ending Hunger Together grants. Grant funding may support new or existing programs that positively benefit central Illinois. Letters of intent are due November 29, 2019. Organizations selected to submit full proposals will do so by February 14, 2020. A committee of CFCI key stakeholders will review all submissions, with final grant decisions to be made by March 6, 2020.
